Edsger D. Dijkstra
Dijkstra is a Dutch scientist, programmer and a science essayist. In one of his essays, titled “The Humble Programmer”, he talks about how programming was not a cool field to work in, in 1950s, when he chose that as his future research subject. Eventually, this man became one of the celebrated computer scientists, living through the times when programming transformed from near nothing to a respectable profession as it is now.
You can read more about him and get some tips on how to write better programs in Dijkstra’s essay, “The Humble Programmer” (PDF, American Mathematical Society).
